NFL Week 9 Picks: Can Jason Campbell be the first Browns QB to beat Flacco and the Ravens?

All I’ll say as a lead-in to this week’s pick is this: Isn’t it great to have the NBA back?

(Home team in CAPS. Lines from SportsBook.com. Gamble at your own risk.)

Ravens (-2.5) over BROWNS

Consider this me not being sold on Jason Campbell just yet. He played alright for a while in the Chiefs game but you also have to remember how terribly the offense started the game and then remember that the Devone Bess fumble aside, Campbell and the offense had the football five times last Sunday with the game within a touchdown and they could not get that final score. So you’ll forgive me if I don’t think that Jason Campbell will be the QB that beats Joe Flacco and John Harbaugh for the time ever.

PANTHERS (-8) over Falcons

I don’t like it, but these two teams in going in exactly opposite directions. Carolina and Cam Newton have been playing really well of late while the Falcons have not and are coming off a 14 point loss to the Cardinals.

COWBOYS (-10.5) over Vikings

I don’t love this number either, but the Vikings have lost by more than ten points three weeks in a row and the Cowboys might be better than any of those teams they’ve played except maybe the Packers.

JETS (+7) over Saints

The Saints are a juggernaut of an offense and last week’s game against Buffalo is a testament to their ability to pour on points and put a game out of reach in a hurry…at home. While they’re still a great team on the road they’re a little more vulnerable. With the Jets it just comes down to how Geno Smith plays and you really never know with rookie QBs. He was bad last week in Cincinnati but he’s played fairly well at home this season so that’s what I’m banking on here.

Titans (-3) over RAMS

Not betting on Kellen Clemens.

Chiefs (-4) over BILLS

I think we all know by now that Kansas City is the worst 8-0 team ever. They’ve had an incredibly soft schedule and they keep getting the best luck with opposing QBs and this week won’t be any different. My guy Thad Lewis might be out this week which would put the game in the hands of Jeff Tuel or Matt Flynn!!! If Thaddy Lew is healthy enough to go I actually like Buffalo’s chances for the upset. But if not, and Tuel or Flynn is in—and let’s be honest, it doesn’t matter which one, they’re both terrible—then this should be an easy win and cover for the Chiefs.

BRAVEHEARTS (+1) over Chargers

This was a tough one to call but the Chargers under Philip Rivers have typically struggled when traveling east and playing in that early game. The Washington defense is terrible but Robert Griffin and the offense have looked much improved since their bye-week.

RAIDERS (-3) over Eagles

Would anyone have guessed at the beginning of the year that the Raiders would be favored over the Eagles? And yet, here we are with Chip Kelly likely gazing fondly across the sidelines at Terrelle Pryor thinking about the possibilities. This game to me though is all about the Eagles defense, which I don’t think will be able to contain Pryor seeing as how they have yet to do anything close to containing anyone yet this season.

SEAHAWKS (-16) over Buccaneers

Seattle is just such a better team when they’re at home as opposed to on the road. And the Bucs are really bad. It’s a big number again, but I wouldn’t feel good at all about counting on Mike Glennon to get the cover.

PATRIOTS (-7) over Steelers

I have yet to get a single Patriots game right this season so you probably shouldn’t put any credence in my pick for this game. But here’s how I see it: they’re playing at home and the Steelers, while they’ve looked better since their bye-week haven’t exactly been world-beaters or anything. But don’t take my word for it.

Colts (-3) over TEXANS

This line feels WAY too small. Have they seen the Texans recently???

Bears (+11) over PACKERS

I can only lay a huge line so many times in one week. Plus this is a divisional rivalry and at prime time in chilly Green Bay. I expect it to be a close one.

LAST WEEK: 6-6

SEASON: 50-59

BROWNS PICKS: 2-7
